"You
almost get this impression that farming sustainably is a vocation for college
students or retirees. And there’s
no road map, or there’s very little roadmap, I think that what's emerging for young
professionals, particularly with children, ya know, how do you sacrifice and
become a farmer? Most of us don’t
have land, most of us can’t financially make sense of like an internship type
deal and so what’s left and what I’ve been really fortunate enough to do is to
find these kind of farm manager positions. There’s a lot of landowners that are willing to take quite a
financial risk to bring their land into production."
